Customer Success Story: Schaer Quarter Horses of Gordon, Nebraska

Verla Schaer is no stranger to the quarter horse show ring. She has raised, trained and shown them for the past 15 years.

She first got started with horses 25 years ago, using them on the ranch where she raises Black and Red Angus cattle, for all sorts of ranch work and for pleasure. If the cattle and horses weren't enough to keep her busy, Schaer also has a full-time farming partnership with her dad, growing wheat, corn, oats and alfalfa near Gordon, Nebraska.

When she can get away, Schaer typically attends four to seven horse shows and play days each year, participating in halter, showmanship, trail, western pleasure, horsemanship, reining, barrels, poles, ranch horse classes, team penning, team sorting and ranch horse competitions. To say the least, Schaer and her horses are well-rounded.

Before her introduction to EquineMax, she was keeping her horse records in a notebook, where she says she had to go through several pages of notes to find what she was looking for.

"EquineMax has made record keeping so much easier and faster, especially with keeping track of my stallion, broodmares and their offspring," she says.

At one time, Schaer was running up to ten mares and had several horses in training, so the record keeping "shortcuts" EquineMax offers saved her a lot of time. She says it has also made keeping show records for each horse much easier.

"When I sell a horse, I can just pull up their records and give the buyer a copy," she says.

Schaer says another feature she uses quite often is the sale catalog creator.

"If you have horses for sale, use the sale catalog creator and extended pedigrees," she says, "It has helped me to market my horses faster and easier."

Schaer's other favorite features in EquineMax include the pedigree records, unlimited horse pictures, complete treatment history, and foaling records.

One of her record keeping tips for other horse owners with EquineMax is to keep records on all foals produced by broodmares.

"It helps to have a list of colts that have proven themselves at your fingertips when a customer wants to know what other offspring have done," she says.

When it comes down to what Schaer likes most about EquineMax, it is certainly the extra time she now has away from bookwork. With horses to care for, cattle to tend to, and crops to monitor, the last thing Schaer needs is to spend more time in the office.
